PixelGrid

PixelGrid - Generative pixel grid art tool to tune patterns, pick palettes, and export reproducible PNG or SVG artwork.

Launched today

PixelGrid is a browser-based generative pixel art creator that lets users design custom patterned pixel grids with full control over symmetry, detail, color palettes, and visual style. It runs entirely locally on your device with no upload requirements for base photos, making it suitable for artists, designers, and hobbyists looking to create unique reproducible pixel artwork without sharing their source files online.

Core Features

PixelGrid operates fully in your browser with no required signup or paywall. Every artwork seed is fully reproducible: using the same seed value and settings generates identical artwork every time. Users can press the space bar to generate a new random seed instantly.

Customization Controls

The tool provides a full set of adjustable parameters to shape your pixel grid output:

  • Shape and aspect ratio selection, plus grid detail adjustment

  • Symmetry, pattern, and look controls including zoom level, fill percentage, grain, patchiness, blockiness, block size, and speckle density

  • Detail settings for cell shape, cell marks, mark amount, and mark size

  • Full color customization with palette selection, custom color picking, background and ink settings, and color spread adjustment

  • Optional animation toggle that generates a 4-second loop exportable as WebM format directly from the browser. MP4 export is not supported natively due to browser video encoding library limitations.

Photo Base Layer Function

Users can upload any local photo to use as a base layer for their pixel grid art. The photo is never transmitted to external servers: all processing happens locally on your device. The source image is automatically pixelated to match your selected grid size, and all patterns, marks, and symmetry settings render on top of this base layer.

Export Options

You can export finished static artwork as standard PNG or vector SVG files, with configurable output size up to 1600px. Animated loop exports are available in WebM format for motion pixel art projects.

Use Cases

PixelGrid is built for:

  • Digital artists creating original pixel pattern artwork

  • Designers making custom backgrounds, icons, and decorative assets for web or print projects

  • Hobbyists experimenting with generative art without needing to learn complex coding tools

  • Users who want to work with personal source photos without uploading them to third-party cloud services
