Intertakt

Intertakt - HIIT and Tabata intervals, programmed like a drum machine: set the pattern, press play, listen.

Launched today

Intertakt is an interval timer for HIIT, Tabata and rounds that borrows its working logic from the drum machine: the pattern is programmed before the session starts, and once play is pressed, the machine is left alone. A clear voice announces every interval and the halfway mark; countdown beeps ride over your own playlist, with music, voice and cues each on their own volume — the mix is yours, the timing is the timer's. Nobody checks a sequencer mid-song. Start the session, put the phone face-down, and it keeps time in a pocket or on Do Not Disturb until the final interval is called. An incoming call is treated like any studio interruption: the take survives, and the round resumes from the exact second it stopped. The fine print: 0 ads, ∞ sessions, 0 accounts — the free tier is unlimited. Premium (unlimited custom plans, history, JSON export) is a one-time purchase. Built with Flutter, offline-first. Coming soon to Google Play; the waitlist and founding pricing are open at intertakt.com.

Core Design Philosophy

Intertakt is built to remove the phone screen from your workout. You can place your phone face-down, lock it, or keep it in your pocket during your entire training session. All workout cues are delivered via audio, so you do not need to look at your device while exercising. The app runs fully with the screen off, and survives even when your device is on do-not-disturb mode.

How to Use

  1. Set up your workout: Choose a pre-made preset, or create a fully custom interval structure where every individual exercise can have its own duration. Save your configuration by name for repeated use.

  2. Start the session with one tap, then turn your phone face-down or lock the screen. The app's lock mode prevents accidental stray touches from pausing or stopping your workout.

  3. Listen for cues instead of checking the screen. Beeps and voice announcements play over your existing music playlist to mark phase changes, count you in, call the round number, and signal when you reach the halfway point of an interval.

Key Capabilities

Independent Audio Mix

The app does not pause your music when cues play. It offers separate volume controls for your music, voice prompts, and beep alerts. Audio ducking, which lowers your music volume while a cue plays, can be toggled on or off manually, and there is no forced automatic ducking. It works seamlessly with streaming music apps such as Spotify.

Interruption Resilience

If an incoming call arrives, you switch apps, or the app moves to the background, your workout session pauses and records its exact current position. When you return to the session, it shows you exactly where you stopped, and lets you resume with a single tap. It will not silently reset your full progress to zero.

Voice and Round Cues

A clear, low-latency voice provides spoken prompts for countdowns, halfway marks, and current round numbers, so you never need to count repetitions or intervals in your head. Voice packs are available in English, Russian, and Spanish.

Local Data Storage

All workout plan changes autosave immediately on your device. No cloud storage or mandatory accounts are required to use any core functionality. The premium tier adds import and export of routines as JSON files, so you can share or move your workout plans between devices without a linked account.

Pre-made Presets

You can load standard popular workout protocols in one tap, including the classic Tabata 20/10 structure, standard HIIT formats, and other ready-to-use short interval plans.
